February 18 Sooke Fishing Report
Sooke's salmon fishing has slowed down a bit in the last couple of weeks. There are still winter chinooks out there, but it's hit and miss...some days good, some days slow.
From the Sooke News-Mirror: "Now that’s a Prime Time fish! Cheryl Piec of Sooke grits her teeth as she displays her catch, a 29-pound chinook salmon she caught off Sooke recently. The big one was taken near Possession Point and weighed-in at Sunny Shores Marina & Resort. Fishing has been spotty lately although according to Cheryl’s catch anything is possible. "
Ron from Sidetrack Fishing Charters was out on the weekend, on a beautiful sunny Saturday. He reports getting a nice one in the low teens and 3 other smaller, plus a couple of other hits)... Good day over all.
The weather is getting warmer, the bulbs are starting to come out, has spring sprung in Sooke? Slow fishing or not, if you have the time and means, get out there and enjoy some time on the water. And before too much longer, those early Fraser "Columbians" will be passing through...scrappy Chinook "footballs", good times ahead!
Good luck out there.
